Taj Lake Palace

Found on the charming isle of Jag Niwas in the idyllic Lake Pichola in Udaipur, you would think that this seemingly out-of-reach structure could only be admired from afar.

But boy, you’d be wrong in this regard.

The Elegant Hotel Lying on A Picturesque Island

If you have the money (and loads of it for that matter), you could not only pay a visit but also spend the night in this pristine, regal building found on the island. That’s right, the 18th-century former summer palace of the royal dynasty of Mewar is now a hotel which offers a luxurious and opulent affair to its guests.

Known today as Taj Lake Palace, the building that the hotel currently resides in was built between 1743 and 1746 under the direction of Maharana Jagat Singh II. Of note, the luxury hotel boasts 83 rooms, each with a breathtaking view of the neighbouring City Palace, Aravalli Hills, Machla Magra Hills, and Jag Mandir.

Going inside, you’ll also find the stunning palace’s interior accentuated by black and white marbles adorned with semi-precious stones and ornamented niches. An array of beautiful courtyards filled with gardens, fountains, pillared terraces, and columns then round off a most amazing hotel indeed.

Here’s another interesting fact about the hotel. The spectacular palace began to receive world renown when it became one of the scenic shoot locales for a James Bond film (Octopussy). Talk about a highly recognizable location!
